Available on MAX: documentary about the healing powers of music
Music as a healing force in times of change, that is the theme of NPO Doc: BLUE NOTES & HIGHER GROUNDS (subtitle: SWINGTIJ), which can be seen next week on the public broadcaster MAX. The documentary by Zeeland filmmaker Erik de Bruyn is a loving, personal and poetic musical portrait of the Zeeland Seaside Dixieland Band, about the healing power of making music together and growing older, which sometimes includes having to say goodbye to things in life. NPO Doc: Blue Notes & Higher Grounds will be broadcast on Thursday, April 17 at 10:20 PM at MAX on NPO 2.

The documentary follows band members Anthon de Bruijn – the 88-year-old father of filmmaker Erik de Bruyn - and Bart Wind, with some other friends of the Seaside Dixieland Band from Schouwen-Duiveland. Despite physical issues and the challenges brought by old age, they continue to make music with passion and to have a positive outlook on life. With this personal documentary, Erik de Bruyn pays tribute to jazz, Zeeland and the resilience of people who continue to do what they love, regardless of their old age. De Bruyn also made the feature film WILD MUSSELS, the drama series DE TROON and the documentary BLUE DAYS, SONG DAYS about Racoon.
NPO Doc: BLUE NOTES & HIGHER GROUNDS is a co-production by IJswater Films and Omroep MAX, supported by CoBO, NPO, Omroep Zeeland, Gemeente Schouwen-Duivenland and Cultuurfonds Zeelandia.
